Award-winning community garden display

SILVER!

The judges at the Philadelphia Flower Show have announced their verdict: The Chester Eastside exhibit about the impact gardens can have in building community was given a second place ribbon on Friday!

Congratulations accompany great gratitude for all who had a part in the creation of this exhibit. Especially we lift up Doug Crosby, CEI’s master gardener, who has been working on this project for a year. But, the joy is not over…

Next Saturday the students in our After-School Program will attend the Show. Accompanied by staff, parents, and videographers students will take the train to and from the Convention Center, and squeeze in a stop at an authentic Philly pizza joint!

If you support CEI financially, we thank you, because without your support, enrichment activities like this would not be possible.

Breaking Bread…Together

Shared meals provide a launching pad for building relationships, creating connections, and laying a path toward unity. At CEI we recognize this because we watch it happen all the time.

With that spirit and conviction we are proud to offer ourselves as partners with other groups pursuing the same goals. In the next two weeks we will host two meals that are open to anyone seeking food and sustenance.

On Sunday, March 8

a group of congregants from our partners at Ridley Park Presbyterian Church will prepare and serve a meal for anyone in the community who would like to attend. The meal will begin at 3:00pm and close down at 4:30pm. Why not come…and invite a friend?

On Monday, March 16

we welcome our partners from the Fellowship of Urban and Suburban Engagement (FUSE) as they host a meal and lead in games, recreation, conversation, and fellowship. The meal is open, and hoping to welcome, anyone who would like to take part in building community together! You can use the QR code on this flier to register.

Same Link…Different Look

  • We are thrilled to finally announce that our new website is up and running! When you go to ceichester.org you will find new and refreshed pictures, stories, and information that capture our mission. You can read the latest newsletters, watch special videos (“Impact Stories”) with people speaking to their CEI experiences, and even find events with descriptions in the new calendar. And, of course, the donation page still does it’s thing!

DELCO Gives

For the third year we will be an organization that raises funds as a part of DELCO Gives. For twenty four hours from Wednesday, May 6 to Thursday, May 7 the campaign will culminate with a frenzy of giving for programs and projects created by each organization. Funds that come in anytime before that are also counted toward an organization’s total, and there are cash prizes for the top fundraisers in different categories. Here is a short video of the first year:

From 2024 to 2025 we experienced a 31% increase in the number of meals served in our food pantry and hot meals programs. In the first month of this year the trend is continuing.

It has become more and more challenging to keep the supply needed to meet the demand. Currently, if we receive an offer of donated food that needs to be picked up, we most often lose it. Would that we had a van…

This year our DELCO Gives goal is to acquire a van. More information is coming about how you can support this effort…in the meantime, can’t you just see it…
