CEI’s Spring Flowers

Nine Days and Counting…

the days until the Philadelphia Flower Show will open to the public. One of the many (many!) exhibits will be a representation of CEI’s Children’s and Community Gardens. If you are able to get there, you will witness a true work of art!

For weeks a small band of steady-handed volunteers have been constructing a model of the Children’s Garden shed. The walls of the shed will be a mural that shows the lineage of harvesters of Chester’s soil from the original inhabitants, to the first settlers, to the current CEI garden. Here you can see volunteer artist Katarina Sindoni, from Legacy Arts Chester, putting the finishing touches on the CEI garden panel.

With gratitude for our partners at Media Presbyterian Church, we will be taking the After-School Program students to see the Flower Show on Saturday, March 7.

As there is no rest for the weary, the process of preparing the soil in the gardens for this year’s crops will begin the following week!

Same Link…Different Look

  • We are thrilled to finally announce that our new website is up and running! When you go to ceichester.org you will find new and refreshed pictures, stories, and information that capture our mission. You can read the latest newsletters, watch special videos (“Impact Stories”) with people speaking to their CEI experiences, and even find events with descriptions in the new calendar. And, of course, the donation page still does it’s thing!

DELCO Gives

For the third year we will be an organization that raises funds as a part of DELCO Gives. For twenty four hours from Wednesday, May 6 to Thursday, May 7 the campaign will culminate with a frenzy of giving for programs and projects created by each organization. Funds that come in anytime before that are also counted toward an organization’s total, and there are cash prizes for the top fundraisers in different categories. Here is a short video of the first year:

From 2024 to 2025 we experienced a 31% increase in the number of meals served in our food pantry and hot meals programs. In the first month of this year the trend is continuing.

It has become more and more challenging to keep the supply needed to meet the demand. Currently, if we receive an offer of donated food that needs to be picked up, we most often lose it. Would that we had a van…

This year our DELCO Gives goal is to acquire a van. More information is coming about how you can support this effort…in the meantime, can’t you just see it…
